ProDentim Advanced Oral Probiotics: What the Words Mean
ProDentim advanced oral probiotics is the product type printed in a green bar on the tub front. It tells you the maker's category, not the strains, amounts or results. Probiotic effects are strain-specific, so the sales page's three named strains matter more than the word advanced.

What does ProDentim advanced oral probiotics mean on the tub?
It is a product-type line. "Advanced Oral Probiotics" tells you the maker sells live microbes meant for the mouth.
It does not tell you which microbes, how many or how they were tested. The word "advanced" is not a defined label term, so it carries no number you can check.
"Oral" says where the product is aimed, and the tablet is chewed. It does not say the microbes settle in the mouth and stay there. Studies on that point are small (Benavides-Reyes 2025, probiotics & perio).
So read the phrase as a category name, then look for the lines that back it up.
What counts as a probiotic?
A probiotic is a live microorganism that gives a health benefit when taken in adequate amounts. That is the ISAPP definition (Hill et al. 2014, ISAPP consensus).
Two parts matter. The microbe must be alive, and the amount must be enough. A product that names a family of bacteria but gives no amount cannot show either.
NIH puts it in simple terms: probiotics are live microbes, and different ones do different things (NIH ODS, Probiotics (HP)). A probiotic is also not a drug, and the FDA does not approve supplements before sale.
Why do strains matter on a probiotic label?
Strains matter because two strains of one species can behave differently. Evidence for one strain does not carry over to another (ISAPP, Decoding a Probiotic Label).
The sales page names three: Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus reuteri and B. lactis BL-04 (ProDentim sales page). Only BL-04 has a strain code. The other two are named by species, so a reader cannot tell which strain is inside.
Tap each bubble to see what research has looked at for that name.
Lactobacillus paracaseiProbiotic species (strain not named)Amount: not printed
Lactobacillus reuteriProbiotic species (strain not named)Amount: not printed
B. lactis BL-04Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, strain BL-04Amount: not printed
The sales page says 3.5 billion for the three together and gives no split or strain codes except BL-04. The round bacteria pictures are brand images; none says which strain it shows (ProDentim sales page).
Studies exist on L. reuteri lozenges (Schlagenhauf 2016, L. reuteri lozenges) and on BL-04 and upper respiratory symptoms (West 2014, B. lactis Bl-04 & URTI). They used other products and other doses. None tested this tablet.
How do you read a probiotic label step by step?
Check five things, in order: strain names, amount, form, directions and a use-by date. ISAPP lists these as the core of a clear label (ISAPP, Decoding a Probiotic Label).
The table runs the same five checks on ProDentim, using the images and the sales page.
| Check | What to look for | ProDentim |
|---|---|---|
| Strain names | Genus, species and code | Sales page names three; one has a code |
| Amount | Count per serving | "3.5 billion" in total; no split |
| Form | Tablet, capsule, powder | 30 Soft Tablets |
| Directions | How much and when | Not on the images |
| Use-by date | A printed date | Not on the images |
Two checks pass in part and two cannot be done from the images. Your own tub may print more, so read it.
What should you do with this label information?
Use it to set your expectations and to compare with your own tub. Do not treat the phrase as proof of any result.
If you decide to try it, the sales page lists 3 bottles at $69 each and 6 at $49 each, with a 60-day money-back guarantee.
Keep brushing twice a day, clean between your teeth daily, see your dentist and keep taking prescribed medicine as directed. If you take antibiotics or have weak immunity, ask a clinician first (NCCIH, Probiotics: Usefulness & Safety). The ProDentim ingredients list shows each line with its research.
FAQ01
Advanced oral probiotics questions
Is the word "advanced" on the ProDentim tub a regulated term?
No. Label rules do not define it, so it carries no checkable standard. Treat it as the maker's wording and look at the strain names and amounts instead.
Do oral probiotics stay in the mouth after you chew them?
Studies are small and mixed. Some show a short-lived change in mouth bacteria, and some trials of other strains saw none. No study of this tablet was found, so staying power is unknown.
How many billion live cells does ProDentim hold per strain?
Unknown. The sales page says "3.5 billion" for the three strains together and gives no split. The label images print no panel, so check the panel on your own tub.
Is an oral probiotic the same as a gut probiotic?
Not necessarily. Both are live microbes, but strains differ and the mouth is a different place from the gut. A strain studied for one use may tell you little about another.
