Lactobacillus Paracasei in ProDentim: What It Is and What Studies Show
Lactobacillus paracasei is a probiotic species, and it is the first strain the sales page names for ProDentim. No strain code and no amount is printed for it. Trials of other L. paracasei strains in the mouth are small and mixed, and none tested this tablet, so treat it as an unproven add-on to brushing and flossing.

What is Lactobacillus paracasei?
Lactobacillus paracasei is a species of lactic acid bacteria. It is one of the three probiotic strains the sales page lists for ProDentim, in first place (ProDentim sales page).
Probiotics are live microorganisms that may give a health benefit when taken in an adequate amount (Hill et al. 2014, ISAPP consensus). The words "adequate amount" matter, because ProDentim prints no amount for this line.
The species turns up in fermented foods and in many research trials. A species name is only a family name, though. Two strains of Lactobacillus paracasei can behave very differently, and the label gives the species alone.
That is the first gap. Without a strain code, nobody can match the tablet to a published trial.
What does the sales page say about Lactobacillus paracasei?
The sales page pairs this line with "Supports the health of your gums" and "Helps your sinuses stay free and open" (ProDentim sales page).
Both are short sales lines about the ingredient in general. They are not results from a test of the tablet, and they name no study.
The one count given is "3.5 billion", shared by all three strains. Nothing divides it up, so L. paracasei's own share is not known.
The label front, for its part, says "Advanced Oral Probiotics" and "Healthy Teeth and Gums". It does not mention this species by name.
The round picture beside this text is a brand illustration of rod-shaped bacteria. It does not say which strain it shows.

What are the Lactobacillus paracasei facts at a glance?
The table below puts the name, the place on the list, the amount and the evidence level in one spot.
Where a cell says "Not printed", it means we looked in the label images and the sales page and found nothing.
| Name on the sales page | Lactobacillus paracasei |
|---|---|
| What it is | Probiotic species (strain not named) |
| Place on the sales page list | 1 of 7 |
| Amount per tablet | Not printed (3.5 billion in total for the three strains) |
| What research looked at | Different L. paracasei strains in small oral and gut trials; the product names the species only |
| Strength of evidence | Strain-specific; thin for teeth and gums |
| Marketed or traditional use | Probiotic species found in fermented foods |
| Main caution | People with weakened immunity or serious illness should ask a clinician first. |
| Sales page says | “Supports the health of your gums; Helps your sinuses stay free and open” |
The same layout is used for all seven lines on the ProDentim ingredients page.
What have trials of Lactobacillus paracasei found?
Small trials of other L. paracasei strains show mixed results in the mouth. None used the unnamed strain in ProDentim.
The studies below are the ones we found, each next to why it cannot be applied to this tablet.
| Study | What it found | Gap to ProDentim |
|---|---|---|
| 117 adults, induced gum inflammation (Volgenant 2022, L. paracasei lozenges) | The main measure, bleeding on probing, did not differ from placebo. A secondary gum score recovered better in the probiotic groups. | A named strain (LPc-G110) in lozenges |
| 78 healthy adults, tablets (Chuang 2011, L. paracasei GMNL-33 null) | Cavity-linked bacteria in saliva did not differ between groups at any time point. | A different strain (GMNL-33), taken three times a day for two weeks |
| Broader review of probiotics and gums (Benavides-Reyes 2025, probiotics & perio) | Gains next to professional treatment in gum disease; not significant overall in gingivitis. | Many strains pooled, not this tablet |
The reading is plain. Evidence for this species in the mouth is thin and strain-specific, with one null result and one mixed one. Nothing here supports a promise to rebuild gums or stop cavities.

See packsWhat is not known about Lactobacillus paracasei in ProDentim?
The strain, the amount per tablet, the count at the end of shelf life and the form of the culture are all unknown from the images we have.
The label images show no Supplement Facts panel, so the figures a probiotic label usually gives are missing No Supplement Facts panel is in the images supplied. The sales page names three probiotic strains (3.5 billion in total) and a 'Proprietary Blend of 4 Plants and Minerals'; per-strain amounts, blend weights and other ingredients are not printed there.. ISAPP advises reading a probiotic label for the strain and the count (ISAPP, Decoding a Probiotic Label).
- Strain code: not printed, only the species.
- Amount of this strain: not printed; only "3.5 billion" for three strains.
- Whether the count holds until the last tablet: not stated.
- A published trial of the finished tablet: none found.
If a seller or a friend tells you this tablet "contains the studied strain", ask for the strain code in writing. Without it, the claim cannot be checked.
Is Lactobacillus paracasei safe for everyone?
For most healthy adults, probiotics are low risk. Not everyone is in that group, and no safety study of this tablet exists.
Rare, serious infections from probiotics have been reported in people with weak immunity or serious illness (Costa 2018, probiotic infections SR). The NIH and NCCIH advise asking a clinician first if you are in that group, are pregnant, or take antibiotics (NIH ODS, Probiotics (HP)) (NCCIH, Probiotics: Usefulness & Safety).
Weak immune system, a serious illness, a central line, pregnancy, nursing, or a child under 18. Bring the tub to your doctor or pharmacist.
The sales page does not say which milk or sugar sources the culture grew on. If you avoid dairy, ask the desk, because no allergen line is printed.
- Bleeding gumsThat keep bleeding when you brush or floss
- A loose toothOr teeth that seem to be shifting
- Toothache or swellingPain, a bump on the gum or a swollen face
- Breath that will not goEven with brushing, flossing and a clean tongue
- White or dark spotsEarly signs of decay can look like chalky spots

Urgent careA swollen face or neck, trouble swallowing or breathing, or a fever with mouth pain needs urgent medical care. Call your doctor or local emergency number.
Signs from NIDCR (NIDCR, Gum Disease) (NIDCR, The Tooth Decay Process) and MedlinePlus (MedlinePlus, Bad Breath). A probiotic is not a treatment for any of them.
Where does Lactobacillus paracasei fit in a daily routine?
It fits after the basics, never in place of them. The sales page says to slowly chew one tablet every morning (ProDentim sales page).
Keep brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste (ADA MouthHealthy, Brushing Your Teeth), clean between your teeth daily (ADA MouthHealthy, Flossing), see your dentist regularly, and keep taking any prescribed medicine exactly as directed.
A tub of 30 tablets lasts 30 days at one a day. See how to take ProDentim for the routine, and what studies show about oral probiotics for the wider research.
Next in the list is Lactobacillus reuteri. You can also read the ProDentim supplement facts page for the missing panel.
FAQ01
Lactobacillus paracasei questions
Is Lactobacillus paracasei the same as L. casei?
The two are close relatives, and the names have been mixed up in older papers. ProDentim's sales page names paracasei only. Because the strain code is missing, a study of casei or of a named paracasei strain cannot be matched to the tablet.
Which Lactobacillus paracasei strain is in ProDentim?
The images and the sales page do not say. Only the species is named. Strains such as LPc-G110 or GMNL-33 appear in trials, but nothing links either one to this tablet, so ask the desk for a strain code in writing.
Does Lactobacillus paracasei prevent cavities?
No, there is no evidence of that for this tablet. One trial of a different L. paracasei strain in tablets found no difference in cavity-linked bacteria against placebo (Chuang 2011, L. paracasei GMNL-33 null). Fluoride toothpaste and good cleaning remain the proven steps (CDC, Statement on Water Fluoridation).
How much Lactobacillus paracasei is in one ProDentim tablet?
Not printed. Only a shared "3.5 billion" is given, across three strains. With no Supplement Facts panel in the images, the amount of this strain cannot be worked out.
Can Lactobacillus paracasei help my sinuses?
There is no evidence for the tablet. The sales page says "Helps your sinuses stay free and open", but a Cochrane review of probiotics and upper respiratory infections was low to moderate in certainty and was not about this strain (Cochrane 2022, probiotics & URTI).
Is Lactobacillus paracasei vegan or dairy free?
It cannot be checked. The species grows in many media and is often used in dairy foods. No other-ingredients line is printed, so ask the desk or read the panel on your own tub before you decide.
