What Is ProDentim Supplement? A Plain Definition

Quick answer

What is ProDentim supplement? It is a dietary supplement sold as 30 soft tablets in a white tub, labeled "Advanced Oral Probiotics". The sales page names three probiotic strains and four blend items. No trial of the finished tablet was found, and it is not a dental treatment.

What is ProDentim supplement, in one plain sentence?

ProDentim is a dietary supplement for the mouth, sold as soft tablets in a tub. It is not a medicine, a toothpaste or a mouthwash.

The front of the tub gives it a type: "Advanced Oral Probiotics". A probiotic, by the ISAPP definition, is a live microorganism that gives a health benefit when taken in enough amounts (Hill et al. 2014, ISAPP consensus). The words "enough amounts" matter, and we come back to them below.

The tub holds 30 soft tablets. At one a day, that is 30 days. That is our arithmetic, not a printed directions line.

The label team reads the tub, then checks each word against public sources. This post is the short version of that work. The long version sits on the what is ProDentim page.

What does the front of the ProDentim tub say?

The front reads "ProDentim", a green bar with "Advanced Oral Probiotics", a heading and three bullets, a molar drawing and "30 Soft Tablets".

The heading is "Clinically Researched Formula For:". The three bullets under it are "Healthy Teeth and Gums", "Long Lasting Fresh Breath" and "Ear, Nose and Throat Immune Health".

Those are label claims. Quoting them is not the same as confirming them, and the images show no study behind them. Tap a number below to read each part in plain words.

  1. Tub and cap

A white plastic tub with a white ribbed cap and a sage-green wrap label.

  2. Name

    ProDentim, the product name.

  3. Product type

'Advanced Oral Probiotics' in a dark-green bar: the label's own name for the product type.

  4. Lead-in

'Clinically Researched Formula For:' It names no study of the finished tablet; no trial of it was found.

  5. Three claims

'Healthy Teeth and Gums', 'Long Lasting Fresh Breath' and 'Ear, Nose and Throat Immune Health'. This is structure and function style wording, not a disease claim.

  6. Molar drawing

A line drawing of a molar. Decoration.

  7. Size

'30 Soft Tablets': one tub lasts 30 days at one a day.

  8. Strawberry art

Strawberries are label art; the sales page does not list strawberry as an ingredient.

The tub is white with a white ribbed cap and a sage-green wrap label, with strawberry art on the front.

What is known and not known about ProDentim?

Known: the name, the form, the count and the three label bullets. Not known: the amounts, the directions and the warnings, because none is printed in the images we have.

The sales page adds more. It names Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus reuteri and B. lactis BL-04, with "3.5 billion" for the three together, and a blend of inulin, malic acid, tricalcium phosphate and peppermint (ProDentim sales page). It prints no amount for any blend item.

The table sorts each point by where it comes from.

Does a probiotic label tell you how well it works?

No. A label name tells you what the maker says is inside, not what the product does for you.

ISAPP says to look for the genus, species and strain, an amount in colony forming units and a use-by date (ISAPP, Decoding a Probiotic Label). NIH adds that effects depend on the strain, and that few products have clear proof (NIH ODS, Probiotics (HP)).

On ProDentim, only B. lactis BL-04 carries a strain code on the sales page. The other two are named by species. The 3.5 billion figure is a total, so no single strain amount can be read from it.

Small trials of other oral probiotic strains show mixed results on gums and plaque, and none tested this tablet. We found no published trial of the finished product.

Where can you get ProDentim?

This site is run by a USA authorized ProDentim retailer, not the manufacturer. Order buttons go to the brand's sales page.

The sales page lists 3 bottles at $69 each and 6 bottles at $49 each, with a 60-day money-back promise. Read the refund terms before you buy.

Who should think twice before taking ProDentim?

People on antibiotics, people with weak immunity and anyone pregnant or nursing should ask a clinician first. NIH and NCCIH advise this for probiotics in general (NCCIH, Probiotics: Usefulness & Safety).

Anyone with a dental problem should see a dentist rather than reach for a tub. Gum bleeding, a sore tooth or swelling needs an exam, not a supplement.

Fluoride toothpaste twice a day, a clean between teeth and dentist visits come first, and prescribed medicine stays exactly as directed. A tablet is an add-on at most.

FAQ01

ProDentim definition questions

Is ProDentim a medicine or a supplement?

It is a dietary supplement, not a medicine. The FDA does not approve supplements before they are sold, and a probiotic is not a drug. It cannot treat a dental condition, so see your dentist for any problem.

What does "Advanced Oral Probiotics" tell me on the tub?

It tells you the maker's product type. It does not tell you the strains, amounts or results. For that you need a Supplement Facts panel, and none is in the images we reviewed.

Is ProDentim the same as a toothpaste or mouthwash?

No. It is sold as a soft tablet you chew, not a paste or rinse. Fluoride toothpaste is what the ADA points to for brushing, and a tablet does not replace it.

How many tablets come in one ProDentim tub?

The label front says 30 Soft Tablets. At one a day, which is what the sales page describes, a tub covers 30 days. The images print no directions of their own.
